The Rubsum award is the highest award for service that the RAMS
present. The award is based on the contributions made by departed member, Dick
Rubsum. He was a good builder, but was challenged when it came to flying. While
he persisted in trying to learn the required skills he made contributions of
time and energy to the club. When he passed on, he had arranged to have his
R/C equipment sold with the proceeds going to the club. In his memory, each
year a member, who has shown dedicated service to the club, is chosen as the
new recipient.
Until 2004, the trophy was passed from the past year's winner to
the new winner. In 2004 it was decided that each new winner would keep the trophy forever,
and a plaque would made to honor all winners and hung at the club house.
