Freezein

Dan Wagner and Jack Grafman were interrupted for this picture at 10:15 AM while they were starting Dan's plane for a flight. It was about 20 degrees, snowing, with a slight breeze and cloudy conditions at that time.

Many thanks to Rod Curtis who organized the event once again. Many of us were remembering the first Freeze-In suggested and organized by Bob Nilsen. This was the sixth year in a row for the event and this time the weather almost cooperated.
Pushy_Dan The snow was powder and about a foot or so deep. Many times the airplane would hang up and require a push to get it started out for takeoff. It was a good idea to keep the plane moving once it started to slide over the snow. Dan is pushing his cub out to the runway.
The_field Later, it stopped snowing and blowing. The conditions were ideal for flying off from the snow! The wind sock is indicating about 12 mph in this photo.
Curt_Tex_Dennis Curt Weber's Superstar 40 is being worked on by Curt and Tex Mantel. The plane has the blow molded floats used by most flyers. Tex highly recommends these floats, but mentions that they should be used only on the snow. Seems that they don't work very well on water. Dennis Ekwortzell is in the background.
Tex_Curt Tex is shoving Curt's plane out onto the active runway.
Curt_Retrieval The engines don't always keep running, even in the summer. Curt retrieves his plane after another successful flight. The floats are recommended for flying off snow because they can go right over the footprints left from similar retrievals.
The_gang By 11:30 we had over 20 people in attendence. Rumor has it that Tex had the first flight of the day again this year.
Chris_Warner Chris Warner is applying body english as he taxis out to the active runway. By now the wind has picked up to about 20 mph.
Chris_Warner_takeoff Chris Warner has another successful takeoff with his cub. (The power lines in the photo are several hundred feet away.)
Workbench Rod Curtis is working on his track surface vehicle. Many of the club members used the tables in the shelter to fix problems and assemble the planes for flight.
Three_Cubs2 Tex submitted this photo he calls "3 Cubs".
